Welcome to Equitable Health Organization

Equitable Health Organization (EHO) is a non-government organization based in Rwanda, founded in May 2023 by students and their former teacher, united by a shared scholarship experience. They encounter marginalized children with disabilities fueled by a passion for fighting against discrimination prevalent in both the community and traditional culture.

EHO stands as their collective endeavour to support and advocate for the health, education, and social welfare of children with disabilities under 18 years old. According to the 2012 (RPHC) Fourth Rwanda Population and Housing Census, the report revealed that 20% (87,900) of the population of persons with disabilities are children between the ages of five and eighteen. However, the proportion of children under five is not accounted for which leads to the lost opportunity to address disability at the early stage of life. The organization is dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of these vulnerable children. Through its initiatives, it aims to contribute to breaking down barriers and fostering inclusivity in Rwandan society. The organization operates under the authorization of the Rwanda Governance Board, with operational certificate number: No 1215/RGB/NGO/OC/05/2023.

ONGOING PROJECTS

Enhancing the Hygiene and Sanitation for Children with Disabilities under 18 Years project.

Equitable Health Organization (EHO) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children with disabilities under the age of 18. Founded in 2023, EHO is committed to advocating for the health, education, and social welfare of marginalized children with disabilities. The project is a one-year initiative aimed at addressing the challenges faced by families with children with disabilities in the Burera district, hindering basic hygiene support for their disabled children. The project involves providing personalized hygiene kits to five children, including essential items such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, body lotion, and more. Additionally, caregiver training sessions will be conducted to ensure the proper usage and maintenance of hygiene materials, thereby enhancing the long-term impact of the initiative. Educational workshops on hygiene awareness, tailored to children with disabilities, are an integral part of the initiative. Follow-up will be done in partnership with local community health workers. Our target is to raise a budget of $7,095, covering expenses for hygiene kits, adaptive equipment, educational materials, workshops, and follow-up activities. EHO places a strong emphasis on sustainability through community ownership, local capacity building, and fostering ongoing partnerships to ensure a lasting positive impact.
